The coalition’s presidential candidate Alexander Stubb gained visibility at last weekend’s Ruka World Cup when handing out prizes at the end of Sunday’s games.

Before that, he had gone on a cross-country ski run in the company of Finnish skiers, hidden from the general public. Stubb caused an uproar when, without the knowledge of the Skiing Association, he had been wearing the Finnish national team jerseys.

The Ski Association says in the latest in its announcement resigns from participating in campaigning and specifies that it is a politically non-committed organization. The release states that Stubb received the national team’s equipment Cross mat from Hakola. Athletes are not allowed to hand over equipment to outside operators.

The rule is especially important to remember when it comes to a campaigning politician.

– We are naturally happy that several presidential candidates were present at the Ruka World Cup. However, the Ski Federation has not invited people to attend. One of the candidates is an Inquired national team athlete Cross mat from Hakola possibility to borrow equipment for a ski run. Hakola has organized this without understanding the problem of handing over the outfit to a politically non-aligned organization and its partners.

Hakola apologizes for borrowing equipment.

– I am sorry for the inconvenience caused by my activities to the Ski Association and its partners. That was by no means my intention. Naturally, my own political activity is my personal matter, but handing over the equipment of the national team to the use of the presidential candidate was a mistake on my part, says Hakola in the press release.
