Risk of slippery conditions due to winter showers: ‘Remains a point of attention for the rest of the week’

The KNMI warns that it may be slippery in places until mid-morning due to winter showers, hail and (wet) snow. Locally, a snow cover of 1 to 3 centimeters may form. In Drenthe, code yellow applies until 9 a.m.

Most of the slipperiness disappears by mid-morning. “Most of the showers have already subsided, although a spontaneous winter shower may follow later today,” says RTV Drenthe weather woman Grieta Spannenburg. “And although the worst of the slippery conditions are over at the moment, it remains a point of attention for the rest of the week.”

According to Spannenburg, the cold air also poses another risk. “We can notice this on the ground through the formation of fog. It can really thicken. And if the fog does not dissolve, the cold can linger during the day. Then the temperature does not rise above freezing during the day.”

Traffic was affected by the slippery conditions last night and later in the night. For example, a car slid off the road on the N34 near Klijndijk. There were no major problems during the morning rush hour.
