Risk of PFAS around Ostend airport: “do not eat fruit and vegetables from your own garden”, neighborhood playground closed

The soil survey dates from a year ago. Soils near the entrance and exit on Zandvoordestraat are also said to contain too high PFAS values. It would concern 3,000 Ostend families.

Ostend closes a playground near the airport. This is a measure on the advice of the Agency for Care and Health, because a soil investigation by the waste company OVAM shows a possible risk of PFAS contamination. The city does not yet know how long the measure will apply.

Further research is now underway.
