Ringo Starr: The return of “Beatlemania”

As always, with a Ringo-esque wink, the drumming legend comments on the top placement of the single “Now And Then” in the “Official UK Top 40”.

The 83-year-old tweeted: “It’s a beautiful day!”

The single, released via K/I post-production, has already broken various stream and placement records. “Now And Then” was released on November 2nd, 2023, and has now officially reached the top of the British charts, 60 years after the Liverpool band’s first number one.

For fans of statistics: It is the band’s 18th number one single, the last top listing dates back to 1969 with “The Ballad Of John And Yoko”.

Ringo Starr writes:

“What all happens with a number one in England or from me: UK, unbelievable; This will certainly bring a few more facts to the screen,” Attached is also a short greeting video with beatnik style: “Peace and love everybody. It’s a beautiful day!”

His clip for “Now And Then” features a slideshow with some impressive musicbiz stats.

Ringo’s retro tenor is reminiscent of the 1960s: “Beatlemania is BACK!”

The video states that “Now And Then” is the fastest-selling single of 2023 – even the fastest-selling vinyl single of the century.

The song also has the most physical sales in a week in almost a decade. In addition, this also has the most streams during a week – of all the Beatles songs that have been published so far.

Just a few days ago, Starr revealed in an interview that in the group’s wild early days he didn’t think the band would survive: “When we started, we thought we’d have maybe ten years.” He added to the prediction quite sober, as he saw a decade as “the maximum range for a rock’n’roll group”.

The Beatles, as a more or less stable formation, only made music together for a decade. But the long “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah” reverberation continues. Until today and beyond into eternity.
