Ringo Starr on AI Beatles track: “It’s a beautiful song”

Paul McCartney used artificial intelligence to create the piece, which also features John Lennon’s voice.

In June 2023, Paul McCartney announced that he had used artificial intelligence to produce a final Beatles track. Thanks to the new technologies, he was able to filter out John Lennon’s voice from an old demo track and thus re-adapt and ultimately complete the song decades after the singer’s death. And Beatles drummer Ringo Starr also thinks the development is great, as he said in an interview.

McCartney’s announcement came amid heated debates about the application of artificial intelligence in the creative field. Indeed, The Beatles fans were also divided when McCartney came around the corner with the revelation. But now Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has spoken out on the subject and underlined in the “Variety” interview that the recording was nevertheless “authentic”.

“It’s not like we’re pretending,” Starr said. “That really is John’s voice, Paul’s voice and bass playing, George [Harrison] on rhythm guitar and me on drums. […] And it works. It’s a beautiful song. Despite all the madness that goes on around it, it’s still a beautiful track. And also our last,” he explains.

The drummer also gave insight into the further development of the song. As early as the 1990s, the remaining members of the Beatles had tried in vain to compile this one track from John Lennon’s incomplete notes. They despaired of it – until now.

Exact details on the release of the final Beatles song are not yet known. However, the play is expected to be released later this year.
