Rijkswaterstaat wants to prevent people from standing still for too long in the heat. The asphalt can feel warmer because of the high temperatures. That is why cars will be taken off the road faster on Wednesday. Rijkswaterstaat also moves everyone, including stranded motorists who are safely parked along the road, to a gas station or another location with facilities.
Travelers on the road are advised to bring a bottle of water and an umbrella against the bright sun.
