After an emergency inspection of the southern dike of Marken this evening, Rijkswaterstaat concludes that the dike is currently strong enough and is unlikely to break. Nevertheless, Rijkswaterstaat is erring on the side of caution and will preventively deploy dike guards from 11 p.m. These dike guards will keep a close eye on the dike next night.
Earlier this evening, Mayor Marian van der Weele announced that the dike would be inspected urgently. “Your safety is our top priority and we will do everything we can to ensure it.”
