Rijkswaterstaat will set up a heat protocol for the provinces of Drenthe, Groningen, Overijssel, North Brabant and Limburg from tomorrow morning. This means that stranded vehicles are immediately removed from the road. The measure will last from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Due to the expected warm weather, the temperature of the asphalt can rise considerably. This makes waiting even more unpleasant for stranded travelers, Rijkswaterstaat reports. Recovery vehicles therefore bring stranded vehicles as quickly as possible to, for example, a gas station or service area near the road, where people can wait in the shade for further assistance.
In addition, road users are urged to be prepared, for example by bringing a bottle of cold water or an umbrella for shade.
Rijkswaterstaat will only institute the heat protocol if there is a 70 percent chance that it will be 30 degrees or warmer. That forecast is based on the KNMI, which has already indicated that it expects temperatures of 25 degrees on the coast to 30 degrees in the east of the country.
