The first glossy photos of the Fenty-Mayers family are public. On the beach, on the porch of a villa in Malibu, three, two, alone, mostly with a baby. All in the March issue of British Vogue, some of which are already online.
This isn’t the first time Rihanna and A$AP Rocky have shown off their offspring. Back in December 2022, they introduced him to the world in a TikTok video. In both appearances he is exactly the same age. The clip was released to forestall the tabloids after a paparazzi tracked down the Vogue photoshoot.
In the accompanying interview, Rihanna talked about the Superbowl, a possible new album and motherhood. The birth of her son changed everything, she says. “It means everything. You don’t remember your life before that, that’s the craziest thing. You try – and there are photos of my life before that – but you no longer identify with the feelings, the desires, the things you liked. You don’t even allow yourself to imagine it… because it just doesn’t matter.”
Her partner A$AP Rocky similarly described the change in perspective brought about by having a son together in an Apple Music interview in January. “I have a whole new perspective. […] But I can’t explain it at all. Every day when I come home, heaven is waiting there.”
Rihanna pregnant again: Superbowl and new music 2023
When the interview with Rihanna took place in January, according to Giles Hattersly, who conducted the interview, the 35-year-old was not yet aware that she was pregnant again. The conversation surrounding her appearance in the Superbowl halftime show on February 12 therefore focused on the fact that the NFL had offered Rihanna the performance several times in the past. However, due to differences with the organization, she had repeatedly declined. The reason was how the league dealt with Colin Kaepernick. In 2016, in protest against institutionalized racism in the USA and the Trump administration, he began to kneel while “The Star-Spangled Banner” was played before every game. He has not played another game in the NFL since his contract ended that year.
2023 is different because Black artists had already done the show in 2022. The opportunity to contribute to the community being represented on one of the biggest stages in the world two years in a row, and by a new mother at that, was not to be missed.
There was also talk of a possible successor to their 2016 album ANTI. According to the singer, she has been in the studio a lot over the past few years, so there is a lot of new material. However, the change caused by the birth of her son also meant that she no longer liked much of it. ANTI would also have been their absolute best album – and that’s why the pressure for a new release is immense. However, she announced that she wanted to release a new musical project in 2023, although she may not be aware of her renewed pregnancy.
