The seven-time world champion had fueled speculation about his future with one step. Now Lewis Hamilton’s brother speaks up – and reveals details.
The campaign caused unrest and concern among millions of fans worldwide – and also worries: Lewis Hamilton recently unfollowed all pages on Instagram – including that of his team Mercedes and Formula 1. Is that a sign? Will the seven-time world champion break up at the age of 36 and end his unique career? Was the dramatic, heartbreaking season finale, in which the Briton only lost the title race to Max Verstappen in the last lap, too much? Hamilton was also otherwise submerged, skipping the gala at the end of the Formula 1 season.
Now Hamilton’s brother Nicolas has spoken out – and ensures clarity: “Lewis is fine,” said the 29-year-old in a live stream on the Twitch platform. “He’s just taking a little break from social networks, which I can’t blame him for.” And further: “But he’s okay. What he’s doing? He watches the kids skiing.”
In view of the radio silence on the part of the superstar, speculations about a possible end of his career recently picked up speed again. Long-time Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone said: “I don’t think he’s coming back.”
Hamilton’s Instagram action only fueled speculation among fans. However: The Mercedes driver had already disregarded all accounts in 2019, and “subscribed” was emblazoned with a big zero back then. And at least Brother Nicolas Hamilton could now at least provide some reassurance.
