Kickboxer Rico Verhoeven will take on Hesdy Gerges on Saturday 29 October during the ‘Hit It’ event in Ahoy Rotterdam. For Verhoeven it is his first match since he successfully defended his world heavyweight title against Jamal Ben Saddik in October last year.
Verhoeven and Gerges faced each other before during Glory 77, where Verhoeven ended the match with a win. Gerges replaced the injured Ben Saddik at the last minute. “I am not a runaway or give up anyway and I took on the challenge. Perhaps too enthusiastic afterwards. I only had ten days of preparation. So mark my words: with ten times as long preparation it will be a completely different story this time. a blast,” says Gerges.
“Hesdy knows what fighting is.”
Verhoeven also agrees with this. “I can only respect the fact that he got in ten days in advance. Of course it will be tough if he trains fully over a longer period, but he has to work hard. He sets the bar high for himself with these kinds of statements We have a long history, in which we have faced each other several times. Hesdy knows what fighting is and it is certain that it will be fireworks between us.”
The full line-up for the event in Rotterdam will be announced in the coming months. Verhoeven is one of the driving forces behind the event in which kickboxing matches are alternated with entertainment.
