Rick survives crash with expensive Lamborghini: ‘I thought, I’m going to die’

Rick van Stippent (29) from Heusden had an angel on his shoulder on Sunday. He survived a serious crash with his Lamborghini on the A28. His car with a value of more than 500,000 euros is a total loss, but miraculously he was able to get out of the car unscathed. “Physically I’m fine, that’s unprecedented. But it is a traumatizing experience.”

He has been called all day by people who want to know how he is doing. Because the images of the very expensive car of which nothing was left were in the news everywhere. He is still impressed by the event on Sunday evening.

Together with a good friend, he left for the DAY1 World of Cars car event on the TT Circuit in Assen on Sunday. Special cars were on display at that spot on Sunday, including those of Van Stippent. “But my car never made it to that auto show, unfortunately,” he says somewhat cynically.

Things go wrong on the A28 at Rouveen in Overijssel. According to Van Stippent after he drove over a bump.

“The weight distribution on this car is different, because the engine is in the back, just like the drive. The butt caught up with the nose, as it were. It started spinning. You also see it on the road surface, it is only circles that you drive on the road. road, no braking distance.”

Despite the fact that he didn’t get a scratch physically, it has a significant impact mentally. “The moment it went wrong, I thought: I’m going to die. Then the car started spinning. Right after I had that very first blow, I thought: okay, now I’m going to survive this.”

The car made a number of heavy blows before coming to a stop. Rick and his friend were able to get out of the car themselves, the car was already on fire at that time. “The cabin was full of smoke.”

Rick is convinced that they would not have survived this crash in another car.
