Rick Astley: “Are We There Yet?” (Review & Stream)

The 57-year-old Brit proved his Glastonbury compatibility, as he shone there with Smiths and AC/DC songs. You can’t argue with his singing qualities. But there’s just a problem with your own works! Once again, they prove to be too average to compete with soul classics and not catchy enough to follow in the footsteps of his smash hits.

Not arrived yet

“Maria Love” is an uninspired Motown knockoff, the female backing vocals seem trite, and vinyl crackling in the intro ends up in the trash can as an original idea. Nice exception: “Never Gonna Stop” hints at what Take That would sound like if they covered Marvin Gaye. Rick Astley – not yet settled.
