Forbes has compiled its 37th world ranking of billionaires and the Frenchman is in the lead Bernard Arnaultowner of the luxury multinational Lvmh which has brands such as Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior and Tiffany. His assets are $211 billion and his group’s shares have grown 18% over the past year. Thanks to these numbers he has ousted Elon Musk from the top of the standings.
French is also the richest woman in the world: Francoise Bettencourt Meyersgrandson of the founder of L’Oréal, which is confirmed compared to last year, with assets of 80.5 billion dollars. For the first time in the history of the ranking, the richest man and woman in the world are French. Overall, the number of women in the rankings grew from 327 to 337.
It has not been an easy year for billionaires, however. For the second consecutive year the number of billionaires goes down as we go from 2,668 to 2,640 people. It also drops there total wealth that stands at 12.2 trillion dollars registering a -500 billion compared to the previous year.
