Richard Krajicek impressed by Tallon Greek track: ‘I didn’t know what I saw’ | Tennis

,,I didn’t know what I saw on Saturday night”, Krajicek said during his review of the tournament. ,,I was eating something during his semi-final and just followed the score. From 3-3 in the second set I watched in the stadium and I was very impressed with his tennis. In November I saw him in the Davis Cup and we don’t have to say much about that.”

The Greek track finally lost 7-5 7-6 (5) to the Italian Jannik Sinner. ,,It was an incredible level and I thought beforehand that he would have no chance. If he continues like this, he could make the top 20 or even the top 10, so to speak,” said the former Wimbledon winner.

Sinner lost a day after his victory over the Greek track in the final against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who competed under a neutral flag in Ahoy. “I didn’t feel like that’s really an item anymore, almost a year after the war,” Krajicek said. “Last year it was still a bit of a search for how to act, but a mode has now been found. To be honest, I didn’t feel anything about it. From that point of view, they are just athletes and not politicians. The nice thing is that everyone can participate, that is what sport is meant for.”

Krajicek looked back on “one of the most beautiful editions” under his reign. It was already the twentieth tournament in which he was in charge. “That is due to a combination of many things, including the fact that it was the first year after corona. That created a certain emotion. Moreover, the center court never looked so beautiful and it was a very nice and wide field of participants. I have seen a lot of beautiful tennis.”

The tournament was attended by 112,424 spectators, according to Krajicek the third or fourth edition in terms of attendance.
