In the case of the possible exclusion of US Salernitana from the league in 1919, the Italian football association FIGC voted against a postponement of the deadline in the sales process. That was decided by the association council, as confirmed by a FIGC spokesman.
This leaves the club around ex-Bayern star Franck Ribéry only ten days to find a buyer and avert the exclusion from Serie A during the season. If an offer for US Salernitana is received by December 31, which meets the necessary requirements, an additional period of 45 days would be granted for the purchase, the spokesman said.
The league newcomer was promoted last season, but had a problem as a result: At that time, the President of Lazio Rome, Claudio Lotito, was co-owner of Salernitana. So there were two clubs in a league where one person was in a managerial position and that was against the FIGC regulations. The club was then held in trust to find a buyer by the end of the year.
As Salernitana announced, there are interested parties. So far, however, these have not met the necessary requirements. Before the 19th match day, the club was bottom of the table with eight points. Due to Corona cases in the team, the game on Tuesday at Udinese Calcio was on the brink.
