The troubled Rhein-Neckar Löwen have won their first win in the Bundesliga under their new coach Ljubomir Vranjes.
At relegation candidate GWD Minden, the two-time German champion prevailed in a close duel with 33:31 (15:13), it was the first success of the Mannheim team since mid-December.
Vranjes, winner of the 2014 Champions League with SG Flensburg-Handewitt, came to the ambitious lions in January as a beacon of hope.
So far, the Swede has not been able to lead the team from the lower half of the table either. After the victory in Minden, the lions (17:25 points) are in tenth place for the time being, the European Cup rankings are a long way off.
MT Melsungen (27:17) is in a much better position, beating HSV Hamburg 26:22 (14:9) in the evening. In sixth place, Melsungen is now within striking distance of fifth-placed HSG Wetzlar (29:17), which did not go beyond a 26:26 (12:19) at TVB Stuttgart.
