The cyclists of the year 2023 are Nico Denz and Ricarda Bauernfeind.
The 29-year-old from Team Bora-hansgrohe and the 23-year-old from Canyon/SRAM Racing were voted in by readers of the two specialist magazines “Radsport”, which is published by the Association of German Cyclists (BDR), and “Radsport” through.
Denz made his international breakthrough this year at the Giro d’Italia when he won two stage victories for his German racing team. The all-rounder won with 22.6 percent of the votes, just ahead of his teammate and 2020 Tour stage winner Lennard Kämna (21.3) and artistic cycling world champion Lukas Kohl (19.4).
Just ahead of Lippert and Hinze
With 21.7 percent of the vote, Bauernfeind relegated German road champion Liane Lippert (19.5) and Olympic track champion Emma Hinze (17.9) to second and third place in the vote.
Bauernfeind had won a stage in the Tour de France Femmes and the Tour of Spain.
