Apps that make life easier, more beautiful or more fun: weekly in the More appendix on Saturdays, monthly online. The apps of the month of November.
Vitality coach
Exercise, eat well and balance your life. Actify from insurer Zilveren Kruis combines all these things in an all-in-1 app called ‘vitality coach’. The app can be used individually, but also as a team, for example with colleagues. The app contains larger and smaller programs to achieve health, relaxation and sleep goals. You always choose one goal at a time.
Help!
SaveMe is an app that can help you in emergency situations and was invented by student Dries Vanmierlo. He came up with the idea to create the app when his own girlfriend found herself in a dangerous situation and didn’t know what to do. The app allows you to send a silent alarm to friends when you are being sexually harassed. These friends will see the notification on their phone and can track your location. This way they can rescue you from the unsafe situation. For the time being, the app is a school assignment for the young Belgian and cannot yet be downloaded from the app stores.
Scan leaves
In autumn the leaves are there for the taking. But which tree does the leaf come from? LeafSnap can help with this. The app can identify leaves of plants, trees and shrubs. When it comes to houseplants, you will also receive care tips. In addition to leaves, the app can also recognize the species based on flowers, bark and fruits.
Reward for steps
We are back in the dark days and it is more difficult to get moving. If you lack the intrinsic motivation to go for a walk, the Stepler app can help. It provides rewards for the steps taken. These can consist of Bol.com gift vouchers, a month of Storytel or a discount at Adidas. After logging in, connect Stepler to a platform that you already use to track your steps. So you don’t have to use the app to track your walks. The app is Swedish made.
