The life of a football player can change quickly. Riechedly Bazoer now knows all about that. Last year he hardly featured in the plans of AZ coach Pascal Jansen and this season he is an indispensable link for the Alkmaarders. “Sometimes you’re put on a pedestal and other days you can’t do anything.”
“I have always had confidence in myself,” says Riechedly Bazoer about last season, when he almost didn’t play. The six-time international was only in the starting line-up once, while he already has seven starting positions in the Premier League. “I don’t worry about what others think and this year I convinced the trainer.”

The competition is on hold this weekend due to international football. For Bazoer, that means more rest and time for other activities. For example, the central defender, together with teammates Kenzo Goudmijn and Denso Kasius, took place behind the press table for the kids’ conference yesterday. “It’s very nice if you can give those children a beautiful day in this way.” Bazoer was asked questions about his favorite jersey number, lucky boxer shorts and dream club.

Barcelona
As of today, Bazoer is 27 years old. The birthday boy is about halfway through his career and is happy with how things are going so far. “I have nothing to complain about. I have been abroad and dream of one day taking a step abroad again.” At the kids press conference, Bazoer indicated with a big smile that his dream club is Barcelona. “You have to remain realistic,” he later laughingly reflected on that statement.
