Indie pop that surprisingly accurately finds the soft spot between mind and heart.
You can do it like this: In a song called “So we won’t get on the radio,” explain exactly what you can do wrong if you want to land a hit. And then of course make a few of these same mistakes, including becoming political and writing a song “Against Nazis”.
Target the soft spot between mind and heart
That’s right, Theodor Shitstorm doesn’t get into the charts with their second album SHOWS FEELINGS. But that is at least as much due to the fact that the band around singer/songwriter Desiree Klaeukens and film director Dietrich Brüggemann plays indie pop that is lovingly rumbled along, but definitely not suitable for radio, and lives primarily from its edges, from rhythms that are guaranteed to be ungroovy Duet singing that is more against each other than together, and by the stories they both tell.
Stories that are sometimes melancholic, sometimes bitter, sometimes have a punchline and sometimes a concern, but then break ironically and set off in a completely new direction. Theodor Shitstorm can question the effectiveness of music with “She still believes in music” and then immediately after “Song of the Ocean” you just want to melt away without question. No, that’s not how you get on the radio, but you can definitely get into the soft spot between mind and heart.
