REVIEW. ‘The Midnight Club’: “With terminal teens, horror master Mike Flanagan serves up a new kind of horror”

Oh, horror. Mike Flanagan is back. A few years ago, the film-maker terrified us with ‘The Haunting of Hill House’. Since then, we’ve been wary of when this Stephen King adept conjures something new out of his hat. Were it not for the fact that his horror continues to take on new forms and continues to crawl under the skin damn efficiently. The deeply philosophical ‘Midnight Mass’ about a religious ghost town with an obsession with the body of Christ was proof of that last year. With ‘The Midnight Club’ -a series with and for teenagers- we were sure that for once we would not be knocked off our feet so easily. Or was that wrong again? Evelien Delgouffe will find out for you in our ‘Viewing guide’.
