Review: The Bad Ends :: The Power And The Glory

If Bill Berry weren’t (by far) the most prominent member of this group, one could almost speak of a new all-star troupe from Athens, Georgia. With a voice that can partially phrase like a punk Michael Stipe, Mantione, Berry and Co. form a dream couple constellation for all those who still feel at home in the classic college rock segment and whose musical campus has enough space for buzzing jangle Guitars, pleasant Americana borrowings (Drive-By-Truckers founding member John Neff unpacks the pedal steel on two songs), Neil Young, but also Big Star and The Replacements.

The fact that the content of THE POWER AND THE GLORY is determined by rather serious topics such as dealing with one’s own mortality is due to the advanced age of the protagonists – but it also goes well with the sometimes bravura fragility of the songs when The Bad Ends’ Power -Pop-Passion temporarily goes into pause mode.
