Well, there’s one thing you can’t accuse Sorry of: that they pay special attention to their marketability. It starts with the ungoogleable name Fish, which the band used to have, and doesn’t end with the current Sorry. And after the highly acclaimed debut album 925, produced by Lana Del Rey and James Dring (of Gorillaz-fame), the London quintet around the likes of duet singers Asha Lorenz and Louis O’Bryen are now taking a step back.

Because ANYWHERE BUT HERE does not continue with the focus initiated by the celebrity producers, but sounds groping, searching, uncertain. Sorry have abolished the electronic beats and the self-confident appearance with it. Instead, a song like “Willow Tree” casually slurps along like a stoned teenager getting his ass kicked lightly by a trash can drum kit, horns saying hello briefly, tunes starving before they can grow up.
But it is precisely this fragility that develops a tremendous charm, and in the best moments like “Let The Lights On” or “Closer” the rock sloppiness allies with pop sensibility and a laconicism, as one heard from the Breeders in the past.
