Review: Scrooge :: Bonn Park

BONN PARK is only a few minutes old and we have met a whole new Dagobert. Yes, the song is not just called “I’m leaving you”: Dagobert, who is otherwise only hopelessly in love or even more often tragically longing, actually ends a relationship of his own accord. “Hope leads us to ruin / All dreams must die,” he sings soon after, and it is clear: the Berliner by choice from Switzerland has seldom sung so differentiated about his eternal theme, love.

As if to cushion this new complexity, the music has lost much of the lushness of the previous album JÄGER. The sounds nestle up almost modestly to Dagobert’s voice, instead of wind instruments and strings there is mostly mid-tempo chugging drums and not only in the anthem to the legendary ex-Scorpions guitarist “Uli Jon Roth” there are lots of guitars.

It is true that some songs such as “Wieso Gemein Weshalb” still soar to a languid hit chorus, but actually Dagobert accomplishes this with this album, the title of which has nothing to do with the former federal capital, but is the name of the playwright Bonn Park, who is a friend of Dagobert’s. who also wrote a song, a big step towards becoming a singer/songwriter.
