Discodancing in ruins. Escapism deluxe. Pop that connects all generations.
As a reminder: Olly Alexander was once part of the Boy Group Years and Years, he acted, was a rolemodel for the queer community in Great Britain and performed the overform “Dreamland” together with the PET Shop Boys. He took part in the ESC 2024, reached 18th place with “Dizzy”, a horny hit, with 46 points. The man is loose. He has no fear of contact. He lives his sexuality naturally and confidently. Participation in shows like “The Masked Singer” are not a problem for him.
Now that his band playmaters sprang up some time ago, he is on the road solo and reliably delivers a kind of pop that is completely free of Dünkel and fear. On his new solo album Polari, he celebrates the mainstream for the sake of the mainstream. It is a dance plate with Gay-PFF. Love songs that the choreo think of. In Michael-Jackson-like manner, he makes sense through the phases and possibilities of free love and always keeps an eye on reality.
In “Make Me A Man” he sings: “When I Wake Up in the Morning, do you have something for me?” And in “MySM” you can literally see Black Beauty in the trot about the Tempelhofer Feld, followed by a horde of free -spirited Young people with heart and brain. The whole thing is knitted in a very simple manner, but reports in every second that it is about joy and escapism. For fun. “Whisper” is reminiscent of the early Human League and the album has something itself that exudes glamor and joy in our bad times. Do you have a 14-year-old in the house who is not embarrassing to swing your leg with your parents in the living room? Voilá!
