Review: Muff Potter :: With all love

The one novelty on Muff Potter’s first album after their separation in 2009 and live reunion in 2018 requires the other: instead of Dennis Scheider, Felix Gebhard (Home Of The Lame, Hansen Band, Einsturzende Neubauten) now plays the guitar. For this reason and because more than a quarter of a century has passed since the band was founded, the ten songs recorded live and sung by Nagel alone sound less like storm, urge, euphoria and emo punchlines – but more musical, more mature, but still accusing.

Kristof Hahn (Swans) accompanies on the pedal steel guitar, Muff Potter quotes Fugazi, Hendrik Otremba and in a crazy loop Timothy Leary. “I don’t want to be my slave anymore” is the indie disco hit, the spoken word piece “Nottbeck City Limits” is about Tönnies’ meat scandal, exploitation and filter bubbles, elsewhere about the monotony and misanthropy of everyday life, about ” Work” as in Nagelschmidt’s novel of the same name. The observer and snapshot comments on the current state of our capitalist society. To rock music, the term of which is by no means to be understood as a swear word.
