Ok, now the thing is called KRACH. “Hate” would also have fitted well. Or: “disgust”. Something short, which isn’t so nice. Because that’s what the Leftovers debut is: short, noisy songs about hate, disgust and two or three other important but not nice things like “Angst” or “Shizo”. Yes, those are song titles. Others are “Nursery” or “Hiroshima” and that’s not a cover of the hippie tearjerker. And yes: This is punk, that’s what the guitars and the full-on-the-twelve-drums say.
Singer, or rather: Rumbrüller Leonid advocates setting Vienna and Berlin on fire, he “likes to stand in the rain with a bottle of wine” or buys “flowers for your fucking balcony”. When he’s newly in love, he expressly likes it when the new girl spits on him. So far, so punk, but the Leftovers wouldn’t be from Vienna if they didn’t have a bit of humor and, above all, a somewhat slanted view of things and a general “love of non-existence”. Yes, Leonid is not just a roarer, he is also a poet whose shifted approaches to the punk themes of hate, disgust, boredom and forlornness are surprisingly poetic despite all the roaring and not so much punk.
