Review: LA Priest :: FASE LUNA

A sloshing psych rock chaos to the beat of the gently rippling ocean.

Hello, dear guitar, you are so beautifully funky. Hey, friendly keyboard, you shine flawlessly. And you, are you already a real song or do you want to become one first – or would you rather just remain a fluffed sketch forever? Samuel Eastgate aka Sam Dust aka LA Priest has been on a musical LSD trip since disbanding indie dance innovators Late Of The Pier, which is now reaching new heights with FASE LUNA.

It was created during a long stay in Costa Rica with snorkeling and jungle trips, a time to the beat of the gently rippling ocean – and that can also be heard, because this music has no beginning and no end, always starts anew, but doesn’t bring anything to an end either . There is a wonderful whimpering and thumping sound everywhere, sloshing sound waves and melodies appear that seem eternal but prefer to disappear again into infinity.

Everything seems to be processed with the wah-wah pedal, but then again not, because some cymbal cymbals or a string vibrates, the ether itself speaks or the drugs that Sam Dust administers, or maybe even those that the listener has taken. A big, wonderfully sunny chaos, in which even the flapping of a butterfly’s wings couldn’t do more damage.
