On the album PURSUIT OF ENDS you can still hear it very well; High Pulp produce largely self-contained fusion tracks that glide along keyboard surfaces, but suddenly come out of themselves under heavy drumming (“Window To A Shimmering World”) or at some point change the timbre (“A Ring On Each Finger”).

The two saxophonists Victory Nguyen and Andrew Morrill don’t even play a leading role, rather drummer Rob Granfelt and bassist Scott Rixon set instrumental smoke signals with their hip-hop and metal backgrounds. This new jazz variant becomes particularly exciting on a track like “Wax Hands” with guest harpist Brandee Younger: three and a half minutes in a state of limbo, minimal music with maximum charisma.
