If Sven Kacirek’s name is on it, surprises are lurking inside. The drummer and all-rounder is constantly looking for cooperation with others and has found a musical partner in Fhunyue Gao, who perfectly complements his sound-rhythmic experiments with her theremin playing.

And that’s not all: the list of acoustic and electronic instruments used on HOYA is long. So
the results of these curious musical dialogues turn out to be different again and again. “Bowie (Not Quite For Strings)”, for example, is an eerie, sparsely instrumented piece whose theremin motifs sound like a wordless chorale and hover eerily over an almost trip-hop beat.

But it is framed by minimal music-esque marimba and synth thunder on the one hand and impressions of abstract exotica with arcade sound aesthetics on the other. And so it goes from one surprise to the next, from this musical microcosm to the others.
