The second edition of the Italo-Diskurs-Pop-Project impresses again without keeping any ironic safety distance.
Never change a winning team, they used to say in soccer, but today we know that players are interchangeable when the system is in place. So Franceso Wilking and producer Patrick Reising just did the Crucchi Gang idea a second time, but with a completely different cast. On FELLINI, Tristan Brusch, Antje Schomaker, Dota and Jeremias can now perform songs from their own collection, translated by Wilking and wrapped in Italo-pop fluff by Reising.
Tocotronic’s “In doubt for doubt” becomes “In dubbio per il dubbio”, and Maike Rosa Vogel’s “Five minutes” becomes “Cinque minuti”. Only Wilking himself steps out of line, who with the Höchste Eisenbahn transforms the classic “Lisbeth” into a cotton ball filled with wind instruments, but otherwise demoted Joachim Witt’s “Goldener Reiter” to “Cavaliere d’argento” because the silver sings better left, and Reinhard Mey’s “Gute Nacht,Freunde” as “Buonanotte amici” even gives a different ending.
The whole company is characterized by what made the debut of 2020 so great: no stupid wink, no double bottom, no ironic safety distance cloud the joy of this cultural appropriation, which not only works great on its own, but also immediately would like to revisit the originals and at the same time let people discover Italo-Pop classics.
