Brian May’s last solo work to date has an anthological character. Originally planned as a cover album with the working title “Heroes”, the final version only contains three tributes to May’s role models: Jimi Hendrix, Larry Williams and Mott The Hoople. Alongside this are two works for a British comedy series, a song for a discarded boxing film, the title track “She Loves Him – She Loves Him Not” intended for the 1998 rom-com, and the goofily brutal, brutally goofy “Cyborg”, written for Rise 2: Resurrection.

The record is correspondingly inconsistent – a reproach that can also be leveled at any Queen album, as long as you prefer concept works to creative grab bags.
