Groovy, melancholic, homely, and of course Henning May’s voice made up of sore spots and deep nicks. AnnenMayKantereit from Cologne sound the way they sound, so nothing new in the West. It’s even more likely IT IS EVENING AND WE SIT AT ME’S place, not only proud of its hospitality in the title, but also feels like a cozy evening with old friends: a couple of graceful acoustic guitars and future summer hits like “3 Days by the Sea” and ” Strawberry Cake” and we feel the sunbeams on our cheeks again.

The entire work almost has something Mediterranean about it on an auditory level – but on a content level it is more like a home-made dinner or an allotment garden. But the student favorites know what they owe their audience, then it’s socially critical: “When I was a child, there was no Insta / Every day from three RTL II,” May sings about growing up, which is based on Filter coffee with friends is of course the best way to look back. The “Orangenlied” and the “Weisshausstraße”, on the other hand, want to be felt.
Some of the songs are shockingly good at explaining themselves. Others not at all. But they all sell a vibe packed in a vacuum, which they actually try to keep as a secret with the greatest love. Resolving this dilemma is perhaps AnnenMayKantereit’s greatest talent.
