“Hey Hi hello” is the name of the opener of this album. What initially seems like the somewhat awkward start of a conversation on a dating platform is underpinned by a message: Alison Goldfrapp, i.e. the new Alison Goldfrapp, introduces itself. There are changes to the solo debut The Love Invention (2023) on this album, although they lie less in the artistic self -image than in the arrangement.

Recommendations of the editorial team

The vocals are no longer embedded in the songs, rather they come as a self -confident vanguard of tracks that always search for the perfect melody. Means: House and Disco, which shaped the previous album so strongly, are of course still elementary components of the artistic DNA. But wide synth areas and co-scandable chorus clearly point towards the electropop somewhere between Annie, Kylie Minogue and the middle Pet Shop Boys. This is extremely good news, since the songs were already strongest at Goldfrapp in which the duo searched for the big gesture.

Combining these with pumping beats works perfectly not only at the beginning, but also at the end of the album: “Magma” twitches as beautiful as a body on the dance floor, around 5:00 a.m.
