In fact, it took fifteen years for this album to be completed. Of course, the Welsh all-rounder hasn’t been idle during this time, with other projects such as Lewis & Leigh. But this work is a compressed reflection of the loss of his father and the associated new beginning. The Celtic-tinged folk songs with a slight Nashville feeling turn out to be clearly and straightforwardly structured and come in slippery style. As gently as Al Lewis handles the sound and text, the pieces creep into our consciousness. Almost too nice as background music in an Irish pub, but what’s so bad about a tear in Guinness?
