Barcelona (dpa) – FC Barcelona, which is financially and sportingly ailing, has to look for a new managing director. After just under ten months, Ferrán Reverter Planet announced his resignation, as the traditional Spanish football club announced.
The former CEO of Media-Saturn-Holding is quitting “for personal and family reasons”, it said. However, Reverter Planet wants to continue until the association finds a successor.
According to a report in the usually well-informed Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, Reverter Planet is also quitting due to differences with club president Joan Laporta. The newspaper wrote that there were differences of opinion between the two in the search for the new main sponsor.
After many years at the helm of Media-Saturn, Reverter Planet only returned to its Catalan hometown last April. There he had replaced Òscar Grau. The change in personnel was announced in March just one day after Laporta’s election. “Being able to run Barça’s business is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” he said at the time.
