CYCLING – Two-time Dutch cycling champion Mathieu van der Poel will not be in action during the Dutch Championships on the VAM mountain next month. The race does not fit into the Alpecin-Fenix rider’s schedule.
“I’m going to rest for a few days now, then I can continue working towards the Tour de France,” he explains. “I will now stay off the bike for a few days and then I will go on an altitude training course for the Tour in Livigno.”
For the third year in a row, the Dutch Cycling Championships will be held on and around the VAM mountain. Last year Timo Roosen was the strongest on the Col du Vam. This year the start is in Westerbork. After two corona years, the Drenthe cycling public can line up along the course this year.
The pros in the men’s race will ride on Friday 24 June, a day later it’s the women’s turn.
