Horst Heldt was cautious about the speculation about a renewed commitment to VfB Stuttgart.
“I can’t say anything, but of course I also noticed that my name was mentioned,” said Heldt on “Sky”.
“Bild” had previously reported that the 53-year-old was once again a hot candidate for the position of sports director for the Swabians. Accordingly, both VfB CEO Alexander Wehrle and advisor Philipp Lahm are said to have spoken out in favor of Heldt’s return.
The paper also wrote about Heldt’s interview in the Ländle on Friday with the club’s management around President Claus Vogt.
“I can assure you that I won’t be at any meetings in Stuttgart. I’ll probably play golf tomorrow. But otherwise there’s no point in commenting on anything,” said Heldt.
He still knows “a lot of people in Stuttgart,” said Heldt. “My banker is in Stuttgart,” he added with a wink. Football is his “core competency” and is what he “funs the most,” said Heldt. “Of course the goal is to get back into football.”
Horst Heldt won the championship with VfB Stuttgart
Heldt began his official career in 2006 at VfB Stuttgart as sports director. In 2007 he celebrated the championship with the club and in 2009 he was promoted to sports director. In 2010 he moved to FC Schalke 04, after which Heldt worked at Hannover 96 and in Cologne.
He has been without a club since his engagement in the cathedral city ended in spring 2021. The former professional, who lives in Munich, appears irregularly on television as an expert.
Should there be a recruitment at VfB Stuttgart, Heldt would probably act as sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth’s superior. The 44-year-old moved from SC Paderborn to the Swabians at the end of 2022 as the successor to Sven Mislintat.
