On Sunday (July 24th) the Red Hot Chili Peppers surprised their fans with an announcement: With RETURN OF THE DREAM CANTEEN there will be a new record on October 14th. Vocalist Anthony Kiedis says, “‘Return Of The Dream Canteen’ is everything we are and everything we ever dreamed of being”. The record is available now here be pre-ordered.
Earlier this year, the band told NME that they had a vision for a new studio album. Kiedis explained: “We’re going to put out a handful of music – literally. Don’t be surprised if you have another wheelbarrow full of songs coming your way in the near future. We have a lot of stuff to excite people with.”
The idea for her new project came about quite spontaneously. “We went in search of ourselves as the band that we’ve kind of always been. Just for fun we jammed and learned some old songs. It didn’t take long and we began the mysterious process of writing new songs. This chemistry that we’ve encountered hundreds of times along the way,” he continues.
“RETURN OF THE DREAM CANTEEN is everything we are and everything we always dreamed of”
The quartet described the whole process as something of a no-brainer: “Once we found that stream of sound and vision, we just kept building. With time turning into an elastic waistband of oversized underwear, we had no reason to stop writing and rocking. It felt like a dream. When all was said and done, our fickle love for each other and the magic of music had gifted us with more songs than we knew how to handle. RETURN OF THE DREAM CANTEEN is everything we are and everything we always dreamed of.”
