A rigorous career change for Sebbe Augustijns. The Belgian midfielder played for Telstar for six months, but decided to quit immediately at the beginning of January. He now works in Etten-Leur at his parents-in-law’s company, where they produce agricultural vehicles. “I have to be honest,” says the former footballer.
Augustijns lost more and more of the fun in football. That feeling already started to bubble up during his time at RKC Waalwijk, but it was confirmed again at Telstar. Even though he played all the matches, his motivation continued to decline. “I can no longer give 100 percent every day,” says Augustijns.
In the middle of the season, Augustijns decided to quit. Immediately after the last match of last year, away against VVV-Venlo, he told a number of teammates that he was going to retire. “I told him on the bus,” he says about the announcement.
In law
Immediately after the decision to quit, he started working at Peeters Group in Etten-Leur. His parents-in-law’s company produces agricultural vehicles. He will take up an office position there, but as an exception, he drove some laps on the Pit bull. “Very good!”
His parents-in-law are happy that Augustijns is joining the company. He has been in the family for ten years now, so they know what they can get from him. “A very nice guy,” says his mother-in-law Monique Peeters. “He has had enormous perseverance in the football world and has come quite far. Now this switch, so that is an interesting story,” said his father-in-law Dannie Peeters.
Augustijns continues to play football at amateur level. He recently signed with Koninklijke Lyra-Lierse Berlaar, which plays in the fourth level in Belgium.
