Retired gynecologist used his own sperm for artificial insemination

A donor child discovered this after a search for his biological father. He brings his story in Terzake on the VRT. AZ Delta, of which the hospital in Torhout is now a part, is opening a contact point for donor children and parents who have questions.

Five years ago, the donor child, named Stefan, contacts a Donor Detective. He registered in a DNA database and starts a family tree research. A similar investigation in the Netherlands at a fertility doctor shows that he has fathered 81 donor children. That story got Stefan thinking and Torhout’s gynaecologist came into the picture. In 2020 he manages to convince close relatives of the doctor to donate DNA. These results point in the direction of the gynaecologist, although they are inconclusive. This is only possible via a DNA sample from the donor himself. Presumably there are four descendants with the doctor’s donor insemination. The inspector doctor has submitted the file to the public prosecutor and the Order of Physicians.

Parquet informed

The public prosecutor’s office is already aware, it reports in a written communication: “There is already a file with the public prosecutor of West Flanders. The investigation is ongoing, but for the time being we will not comment further.”
