Retail sales are only falling slightly

US retail sales fell only slightly in October. Sales fell by 0.1 percent compared to the previous month, as the Commerce Department announced in Washington on Wednesday. Analysts had expected an average decline of 0.3 percent.

Excluding the volatile car sales, revenue increased slightly by 0.1 percent. Here, however, a slight minus was expected. Retailers’ sales are seen as an indicator of the strength of consumption, which is particularly important for the growth of the world’s largest economy. (dpa)
