Result What do you think: Small majority thinks that municipalities should help sports associations

The rising energy costs hang like a dark cloud over Drenthe sports associations. Several municipalities, including Assen and Coevorden, have decided to financially support the distressed associations. After the financial problems during the corona pandemic, the local authorities are therefore stepping in again to help the sports clubs.

A small majority of the participants in ‘What do you think’ think that municipalities should continue to support sports clubs. Just under 53 percent disagree with the statement ‘Sports clubs should be able to keep their pants on’.

Households and businesses have recently received compensation from the government because of rising energy costs. However, no compensation schemes have been drawn up for sports associations, as a result of which many clubs fear for their survival. There are now several municipalities that stand up for the associations.

Yesterday a proposal was made in the city council of Coevorden to set up an emergency fund for (sports) associations that can no longer afford the rising energy costs. Earlier, the municipality of Assen already decided to meet associations in renting costs.
