Restless at Ter Apel registration center, no place to sleep for about 300 people

It is restless at the registration center in Ter Apel this evening. Hundreds of asylum seekers still have no place to sleep and fights have broken out, reports RTV Noord. The N366 around the asylum seekers’ center is closed to regular road traffic as a precaution.

Last night about 150 people slept on the lawn at the registration center, according to the COA about three hundred people will be staying there tonight. According to a spokeswoman for the municipality of Westerwolde, which includes Ter Apel, an emergency shelter has been found for sixty vulnerable people where they can spend the night. The rest will have to sleep in the open air at night.

Reporters from RTV Noord experienced the unrest around the registration center up close. They saw how a group of waiting people clashed with each other. The police were not present at the time. According to local residents, large numbers of police were standing by at the police station in the village. The municipal spokeswoman reports to the ANP that peace returned in the course of the evening.
