“After six months, the second injection no longer counts and they suddenly scan red, while they were still green the day before. We should actually send them away. As a commercial customer, your heart bleeds when you have to send someone away because something is not in order administratively.”says Sam.

“Not along with digitization”

Customer Rudy Beke does not have a smartphone and printing a paper version yourself is not an option. “I don’t work with a computer. I don’t keep up with digitization. That’s ideal for us here”he says.

You can also request a new certificate by post, but that takes a while and such a laminated card lasts longer.

“If that is just a piece of paper that comes with your identity card, it can get wet and tear and sometimes it is no longer legible”, says Patrick Vandoorne. Hendrik Vannevel adds: “It happens that my mobile phone stays in the car and then I have to walk back. Such a pass is easy.”

Already made 2,000 passes

Even if the battery of your mobile phone is empty. The owners of the restaurant find it important that their customers can certainly come by this weekend. “People want to come here for a romantic dinner and then we don’t want to have to send them away on Valentine’s Day because their covidsafe ticket is red,” says Petrouska Beke of Restaurant Petrouska.

“We have had seven checks in the last three weeks. If someone is red and they scan it, it costs us 2,400 euros.”

Since the start of the vaccinations, the couple has already made about 2,000 passes, but especially now the need is high.
