KORFBAL – The game went up and down from minute one, but at the final whistle, DOS’46 from Nijeveen had to acknowledge his superiority in leader Fortuna Delft. It lost in the final home game of the season, head held high, to the title contender: 23-26.
Fortuna started the game as a towering favorite. The shared leader in the Korfball League has only lost one game so far. Two weeks ago, the team from Delft still beat DOS’46 with 26-15. DOS then came along well for half, but saw the difference in quality painfully come to the fore in the second half.
Despite the underdog position, DOS started the game in a flash, just like last Tuesday against LDODK. Halfway through the first half they were leading 7-3. Still, Fortuna managed to come back to a 7-9 lead, but then DOS took matters into their own hands again. Led by Christian Dekkers, one beautiful goal after another was scored, as a result of which the team went to rest with a 13-11 lead.
Visible quality difference
After the break we saw the same game picture as two weeks ago. Fortuna stepped up its game and took a large lead after the break via Mick Snel and Nick van der Steen: 14-17. Still, DOS showed more resilience than two weeks ago and fought until the final whistle. Still, it wasn’t enough for the win. The gap with Fortuna was too big, which left the field with a 23-26 victory.
Departure Friesland
Despite the defeat, Pascal Frieswijk looks back on a good game: “We can be proud of ourselves. We have held up well. It gives enough confidence for the end of the season,” said Frieswijk, who will leave the team after this season. Nijmegen. He returns to his youth club SCO together with Melvin Frieswijk and Kim van Dalen. Frieswijk: “I’ve had wonderful years here and I’m leaving with my head held high. I’ve established my name here and I’m very proud of that.”
Play-offs still in sight
Despite the defeat, the team still has a chance to make it to the play-offs of the Korfbal League. Then it has to win the away games against KZ ThermoU and LDODK next Tuesday and next Saturday.
