On December 26, 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mrs. SAM Kaag MA, MPhil, requested the King to resign her position as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance with effect from January 8, 2024. The King granted this resignation in the most honorable manner, on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, with gratitude for the many important services rendered by the Minister to him and the Kingdom. The King’s Cabinet has announced this.
As long as no provision has been made for the appointment of a new Minister of Finance, the Minister for Climate and Energy, Mr RAA Jetten MSc, will take over the minister’s duties. A new Minister of Finance will be sought for the remaining caretaker period.
