Residents of natural gas-free homes are satisfied, but according to research TNO only after a period of ‘costs and hassle’

Residents of natural gas-free houses are very satisfied with the quality of their new home. But they find the preceding process very drastic for themselves and their relationships with other residents.

This is the conclusion of a survey conducted by TNO among homeowners in five pilot districts, where the government aims to make as many homes gas-free as possible with high subsidies. These are quite different areas.

The types of neighborhoods vary widely: such as in Garyp, where mainly detached houses are made natural gas-free with the help of heat pumps. In Purmerend, terraced houses are connected to district heating.

Of the more than 450 households, 125 completed the survey.

Experts warn that they will have to go through a ‘chaotic period’ before their house is natural gas-free.
