Residents of 50 West Flemish municipalities can consult their roof scan

“Aerial thermography makes it possible to map the heat losses of roofs and is a way of sensitizing citizens to energetically renovate their homes. Still, more promotion and guidance is needed to achieve effective results,” explains Flemish MP Brecht Warnez, who requested the figures from Minister Zuhal Demir (N-VA).

In the winter of 2017-2018, Fluvius launched the “roof insight” project. In this context, municipalities in Flanders are flown over with a view to mapping the heat loss from the home. After all, a lot of heat and therefore energy is lost through the roof. In the coming months, the offering of roof scans will be geared up. Today the data of 25 municipalities is already available online. This will be published on the website of 25 municipalities in September. In total, there are now 50 municipalities from which thermographic aerial photographs were made. In Avelgem, Kortrijk and Menen, the roofs have partly been overflown and the information will only be available to citizens at a later date.

The province of West Flanders is the best scoring province. In Flanders, 162 municipalities have now been completely overflown. Nearly one third is located in our province. The total cost of the overflight and data processing is 1.1 million euros.
